Meet Our Hero!

Hello! We are here with Kris today. Kris, I am so excited about your first story that your friend Art wrote. What is it like being the star of a new book?

“It’s kind of fun! I go on lots of adventures, but this is the first time anyone ever wrote it down in a book.”

Kris, tell our readers a little bit about yourself.

“I don’t know what to say. I guess I’m a pretty normal ten-year-old.”

So, you do normal girl things?

“I am a girl, but I’m not JUST a girl! I can do anything a boy can do.”

You live with just your dad, right?

“Yes. My mom died a couple of years ago. I really miss her, but my dad does everything he can to make sure I am happy.”

It sounds like he’s a pretty good dad. You go to school every day?

“Yes, I do. Most of the time I enjoy it, but sometimes I wish I didn’t have to be there. Especially when the weather is nice outside. I would rather play outside or go on adventures, but learning can be fun, too.”

What are your favorite subjects?

“I love reading! It doesn’t matter what I’m reading. I like adventure stories, but I enjoy reading other stuff too. Even history! I don’t like math very much though. It’s boring!”

What do you like to do when you’re not in school?

“If it’s raining out, or dark, or there is nothing else to do, I grab a book and read. My mom gave me a lot of books, my dad gives me more, and I think I’ve read most of the books in the school’s library. When it’s nice outside, I play baseball with the other kids in the neighborhood. At first, they didn’t think I could play because I was a girl. Now they like it when I play, as long as they are on my team, so I don’t beat them! One of my favorite things, though, is to go on trips with my dad. Sometimes we are in the car a long time, but we make up games and tell made up stories about the other people we see.”

Kris, it seems like you have lots of friends. Do you have a favorite person?

“I have lots of favorite people. My dad, of course. Mr. Pence the grocer because he always gives me an extra piece of candy. My grandma Mable is nice and reminds me of my mom. My teacher is friendly and likes to help me. Even with math.”

It’s wonderful to have so many friends around. I imagine with all those people, you have lots of memories. What is your favorite memory?

“I remember sitting on my mom’s lap a long time ago. She would read me books and make funny voices. She would always tell me stories and help me use my imagination. It was almost like we got to go to these places together.”

That is a very wonderful memory, Kris. It sounds like you had a wonderful mom. You must miss her a lot. Do you have anything else you’d like to share?

“Not right now. I have to hurry and go. I have a baseball game tonight!”

I won’t keep you then. Thank you for visiting with me and I look forward to reading your next story!
